America’s Conservation Enhancement Act Benefits Recreational Fishing

Washington, DC --- On January 10, 2020, America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Act (S.3051) unanimously passed the Senate. Supporting an array of fish and wildlife conservation policies, the act encompasses a number of benefits to recreational fishing on both national and regional levels.

Nationally, the implementation of federal authorization of a national fish habitat partnership program will fund restoration and conservation projects for fish habitats.

On a regional level, both the Great Lakes and the Chesapeake Bay are supported in the Act. The Great Lakes’ $7 billion fishery receives assistance from authorization of the U.S. Geological Survey to conduct biological assessments related to conservation and maintenance as well as a provision which supports fishery data collection. As an area that’s vital to the health of recreationally important fish such as the striped bass, the Act also provides for Clean-up of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

“We are pleased to see all parties coming together to support this Act which is not only important to the future of recreational fishing but also to the environmental sustainability of vital waterways across our nation,” noted Grady-White president, Kris Carroll.

The Act, supported by the American Sportfishing Association, will now be considered in the U.S. House of Representatives.
