Good docking and getting underway techniques take a little practice, especially when the wind or current is pushing you. Try this method, and look like a pro:
- Keeping a bow line tied and well aft, power ahead while a crew member fends off the dock and handles the bow line.
- Use forward power as necessary to force the stern away from the dock.
- Straighten engine(s) and use reverse to back well clear of the dock. Cast off the bow line.
- Steering engine(s) ahead or starboard, move away from the dock and get underway.
