Each year, the North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF) presents the prestigious Governor's Conservation Achievement Awards to honor those who have exhibited an unwavering commitment to conservation in North Carolina. In 2018, the coveted Sportsman of the Year award goes to Eddie Smith, owner and CEO of Grady-White Boats. By recognizing and highlighting conservation leaders like Eddie Smith, the NCWF hopes to inspire all to take a more active role in protecting natural resources.

The announcement by NCWF noted that Smith has a strong passion for introducing others to the joys of hunting, fishing, and water sports, and lauded his personal conservation efforts such as the restoration of the 3,000-acre Grimesland Plantation that includes significant wildlife habitat. Smith established the North Carolina chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association, and was a powerful voice for the passage of the state’s Outdoor Heritage Act, and served on the NCWF’s Outdoor Heritage Advisory Council, demonstrating his dedication to conservation for future generations. Without a doubt, a greatly deserved honor!

All of his life–from childhood through today–Eddie Smith has been an enthusiastic sportsman. Through his lifelong sporting passion, principles and understanding good business, the Grady-White brand has exemplified the best in outdoor values, especially waterways and fisheries conservation.
