"We're providing a lot more room in the Freedom 285 for socializing and all kinds of fun and all types of gear whether for fishing, diving, camping, tubing, wakeboarding or skiing," says Joey Weller, vice president of sales and marketing at Grady-White. "Entertaining friends and family is what this boat is all about."

Not only is the bolstered cockpit more spacious, so is the enclosed head area in the port console. "An adult can change clothes in this console area," Weller points out, "so you can go from a day on and in the water direct to a waterside restaurant for dinner. If you opt for the grill arrangement, you can feed the crew their favorites wherever you are-we even include a standard removable table for the bow or cockpit. These features make it possible for everyone to really enjoy day-long outings whether offshore at a secret fishing spot, beaching it on the coastline, or tucked in at a secluded cove."

Storage space abounds on every Grady-White, and the 285 has aplenty. The lockable port console includes a compartment that runs forward, underneath the bow seating, providing a perfect place to stow rods, skis or swim noodles. There is more storage area in the lockable starboard compartment for tools, toys, snorkel and dive gear, picnic baskets, extra towels-whatever a crew needs for all-day comfort and adventures. There's a handy pullout drawer under the helm for odds and ends.

The helm area itself features a larger windshield and instrument panel with a repositioned compass so the sightline is excellent. Standard helm seating is a deluxe adjustable pedestal seat and a footrest. Available as an option is an electronically adjustable helm lean bar seat. Behind the helm seat is a sink, storage drawer and trash compartment. The sink can be replaced with a 1300-watt grill.

Other standard seats include Grady-White's patented port lounge seat that's electronically extendable (nap anyone?), a patented aft bench seat that easily folds away, and a comfy bow box cushion at both port and starboard. An optional insert turns the bow into a fishing platform or, with the cushion, a perfect sunning station. To keep the crew hopping, the MP3 stereo system with auxiliary audio connections comes with six speakers (two aft, two at the helm, and two forward) and is satellite ready. And to help keep everyone hydrated, drink holders are everywhere around the cockpit-twelve of them, with two more at the optional wet bar area.

For the family that fishes there are four gunwale rod holders and a horizontal rack for three rods on deck. A 32-gallon (121.13 l) livewell is available with light, full column distribution inlet, and 1100 GPH (4,164 LPH) pump. The shade-providing optional hardtop with radio box, storage nets, two speakers, and spreader lights also includes outrigger plates, and a 15-foot (4.57 m) outrigger kit is available. The standard insulated aft fish box (185 quarts/175.1 l) with cutting board and forward starboard fish box (135 quarts/127.8 l) both drain overboard.

The integrated outboard mounting system provides an easy access swim platform through the fiberglass transom door with heavy-duty positive locking latch, and includes a four-step ladder really appreciated by water sports enthusiasts young and older alike. There's a freshwater shower at the transom, too, just the ticket for a rinse off or cleaning sunglasses.

Like every Grady-White, the Freedom 285 is completely self-bailing with overboard draining by force of gravity, and foam-filled for flotation. Every piece of deck hardware is premium 316 stainless. The exclusive SeaV2 hull delivers a true tracking, smooth and dry ride.

CHICAGO, IL: The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) has again awarded Grady-White Boats the CSI Award, the trade association's top recognition for customer satisfaction. 2011 is the tenth year of the association's study of customer satisfaction among boat and boat engine owners. Grady-White has received the award in the category of fiberglass outboard boats every single year the study has been conducted.

Grady-White Boats has been recognized with the highest ranking for excellence in customer satisfaction in its category by every third party study ever conducted in the marine industry including these ten-in-a-row NMMA CSI awards and eight J.D. Power and Associates awards in a row. (Although the studies may be resumed in the future, the 2008 Boat Competitive Information Study and the subsequent 2009 awards recognition was the last study completed in the marine industry by J.D. Power and Associates).

The marine industry's CSI Award program honors participating manufacturers that actively measure customer satisfaction and pursue continuous improvement to better serve the customer. The 2011 award recipients achieved and maintained an independently measured standard of excellence of 90 percent or higher in customer satisfaction, based on information provided by customers purchasing a new boat or engine during the period between April 1, 2010, and March 31, 2011. Participating manufacturers must survey all new boat buyers during this period. For this reporting period, the program surveyed more than 40,000 consumers.

Grady-White received an exceptionally high benchmark score.

Award recipients will be acknowledged during the annual Industry Breakfast at the 2011 International BoatBuilders' Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., Room C-201, second floor in the Louisville, Kentucky Conventions Center.

Not many 20-foot boats, much less 20-foot center consoles, feature the all-day comfort of an enclosed head area, but the new Grady-White Fisherman 209 is an exception. That is not the only thing in this chocked-with-customer-inspired-features boat that's exceptional; this great family-and-fishing Grady-White doesn't miss an opportunity, big or small, to add features and function for a fun day on the water. Highlights include a cockpit that is every bit as big as most 25-footers, a clever removable cooler that doubles as forward seating, access to the bow all at deck level, and a handsome, well-engineered optional T-top integrated into the console structure. Little things make a difference, too, like a recessed spot on top of the console to store your sunglasses when you dive over for a swim.

'Our focus in re-engineering this center console was first and foremost to add a useful-sized head area,' says Joey Weller, vice president of sales and marketing for Grady-White. 'But that was far from all. Grady-White builds a complete line of ten different center console models from 18 to 36 feet in length and we wanted to integrate some of our bigger center console features into this good-looking 20-footer including the optional T-top. Plus, we've made it ready for the new generation of highly efficient Yamaha engines coming to market. We think that a lot of things come together in the Fisherman 209 to create a terrific choice in a smaller Grady-White center console for young families.'

'The new Fisherman 209 is designed, of course, to be powered by a single Yamaha four stroke engine and the super-efficient new generation 200 or 250 HP engine is a great match for this boat,' continues Weller. 'Combine this efficient power with Grady-White's exclusive SeaV² ' hull, and you really have a wonderful, safe and solid ride at almost any speed and condition.'

'We looked to our new 20-foot Fisherman 209 when we worked on creating the head area on the Fisherman 209,' says David Neese, Grady-White's vice president of engineering. 'For a 20-foot boat, the head area is surprisingly roomy. This enclosed console features a dome light, handhold, a mirror on the door, and good storage space. Equip it with an optional portable head and you're ready to go on all-day outings with the family.'

The bow area also features two 88-quart insulated fish boxes (port and starboard) that double as seating. 'We've found that our center console customers, especially, really like to have access forward at one level all the way to the bow, which really helps out the fishermen or families when anchoring,' continues Neese. An optional insert changes the whole bow to a roomy casting platform. Plus Grady-White's well-engineered anchor locker makes dropping the hook an easy task. Just forward of the console, Grady-White has introduced another idea to enhance the use of space: a removable cooler with a cushioned top that doubles as roomy bench seating for two. 'When you come home, just remove the cooler, take it home and you're ready to pack it to go out on the water the next day,' says Neese. 'Couldn't be easier!'

The helm area has a big facelift from earlier versions of 20-foot center consoles to further enhance function. Pedestal seats are standard, but many will opt for the deluxe helm lean bar with its comfortable backrest, flip up bolster, cushioned seating and foot rests plus rod and tackle storage. The console design borrows from its bigger sisters in the Grady-White line. The easy-to-view flush mount electronics area has room for almost any electronics wish list, and the acrylic windshield provides excellent visibility and protection. Many customers will also opt for the T-top complete with radio box, dome light, storage net, spreader light and four rod holders. The brushed aluminum support on the T-top struts is sturdily integrated into the console for a clean, good-looking design.

Aft, the Fisherman 209 has a fold down motorwell dam, allowing quick access to the stern. There are two comfortable aft seats with cushioned backs on either side of the motorwell, so like every Grady-White the 209 has plenty of comfortable seating aboard.

"We've incorporated a traditional outboard motorwell for the 230, eliminating any sort of design issues with a removable or fold down motorwell dam. This also allows us to move aft an optional nice, big 35-gallon insulated raw water livewell with an 1100 GPH pump and full column distribution inlet, says David Neese, Grady-White's vice president of engineering. "Since the livewell is insulated, it doubles as an extra cooler on days when you aren't using live bait. The motorwell also allows us to optionally offer our patented aft bench seating that folds out of the way when you break out the fishing gear. Also at the transom is a handy 20-quart drop-in storage box with lure tray. These are good example of what we mean by using every inch and maximizing the available space!"

Grady-White has included a stand-up head area within the console with a vinyl liner instead of cloth-like coverings inside to make maintenance really easy. "And guess where the batteries are?" poses Neese. "In the console! Moving the batteries opened up storage space in the optional deluxe lean bar. We've looked at every opportunity to create an easy to use boat with great function."

Tending bait and handling lines are thus effortless, and the skipper doesn't have to move. The big tinted windshield has a super quality windshield wiper and is safety glass, not Plexiglas^®. The protection is incomparable, and the visibility is great. The sturdy stainless wheel really fits your hands and the boat handles like a dream. Controls for everything are at your fingertips. For example, raising and lowering the anchor is controlled from the helm or from the windlass area. With the touch of a button, a sturdy plow anchor is extended and retracted through the bow. Step down the cherry steps leading inside the lockable console and you'll quickly see other reasons why Grady-White calls this boat a new kind of center console, great for both family and fishing. The console's cabin-like interior not only features a roomy stand-up shower area including a “hidden” head with standard VacuFlush^®, but also a galley with Corian^® countertops and nice deep stainless sink plus a stainless refrigerator with interior illumination. A nearby area converts to a freshwater shower with just a pull of a heavy-duty shower curtain, and includes a cherry seat to sit down on to scrub off. An optional microwave oven heats food and beverages. There's a clever mirror that can hide an optional TV and DVD player, and a great quality Kenwood sound system with MP3 and auxiliary sound connection. The radio system can be optionally ordered satellite ready for Sirius. There is a berth with plenty of room for two that extends forward, with storage along the side, providing a place for a tired fisherman to get some rest. A tinted rounded skylight and the additional new-style side window make the area airy and open feeling.

There is an enormous amount of deep bulk storage in the console. Roomy drawers and net storage keep items easy to locate. There is a stand-up rack for five rods with flip up cherry rod holders, and more than enough room to lock up and store many more. The whole area is attractive with wood accents and a cherry cover over the head itself. Access to the switch box and boat systems controls is right inside the console door, with color-coded wiring that makes maintenance a snap.

The helm seating support structure includes a bait station. For starters, aft of the helm and companion seating is a roomy 41-gallon lighted livewell, equipped with an 1100 gph pump and full column aeration-a proven system for lively bait. (A second equally large livewell is optional.) The livewell drains overboard for easy clean up, as do all Grady boxes. The area also incorporates a rigging station with freshwater washdown, a cooler, tackle drawers, plenty of rod holders, and more than enough bulk storage to accommodate any change of gear the fishing situation demands.

With Grady-White's patented aft fold away bench seat in the stowed position, the Canyon 366 aft cockpit measures a roomy 85 square feet. There are six rod holders on the gunwale, and six rod holders on the lean bar so tackle is always ready to go. Add two freshwater outlets, a cutting board atop the cavernous 291-quart aft fish box, a pressurized raw water washdown, and the big fiberglass transom door with a super heavy-duty latch and positive locking device, and you will see that the aft cockpit is a bait rigger's delight, a perfect scene for multiple hook-ups with big quarry.

Forward, the bow area features two 263-quart insulated fish boxes, port and starboard, that double as seating. Access all the way to the bow is at one level, which really helps when fishermen are working their catch. Deck hardware is all through-bolted premium grade 316 stainless, and all cleats including the spring line cleats are pop-up style, easy to clear in a fish battle.

An optional table insert converts the easy-to-fish bow area to a roomy picnic or sun-and-fun area for those family days and weekends inshore. With cushions, this makes a great sun deck. Very comfortable cushioned seating for three adults is just forward of the console.
