DOCKING TRICKS: Leaving Dockside in Wind or Current
Good
docking and getting underway techniques take a little practice,
especially when the wind or current is pushing you. Try this method, and
look like a pro:
Keeping a bow line tied and well aft, power ahead while a crew member fends off the dock and handles the bow line.
Use forward power as necessary to force the stern away from the dock.
Straighten engine(s) and use reverse to back well clear of the dock. Cast off the bow line.
Steering engine(s) ahead or starboard, move away from the dock and get underway.
