BILL "FISH WHISPERER" NETZEL brought in the biggest walleye during the Beaver Park Marina fall tournament.
Beaver Park Marina, Lorain, OH, held its Annual Fall White Perch Tournament in October, with 14 Grady-Whites fishing and a total of 84 crew and family enjoying the fun. First place was won by defending champ Rick Raup and his son David and their friend Ray, on a
Marlin 300, with five fish totaling 59.95 in. Second place went to Dennis Smith fishing a
Sportsman 180 with his crew of son Brian and friends Dwight and Justin; their five fish measured 57.125 in. Third place with five fish totaling 56.25 in. went to the Tomasheskis with Captain Todd and both Tom Sr, and Tom Jr. on board. Big perch and big walleye went to Captain Bill Netzel with a 12.5-in. perch and a beautiful 30-in. walleye.
Port Harbor Marine, South Portland, ME, had great weather for its August Owners' Tournament. Thirty-five boats fished two days, all going 40-60 miles offshore. Prizes were awarded in bluefish, striper, cod and open class for the five largest fish in each. A hamburger and hotdog cookout followed the weigh-in.
Spellmans at Al Grovers, Freeport, NY, held a Grady-White Owners' Tournament in October, fishing Long Island's south shore. Twenty-one boats competed, and 60-plus fishermen, families and friends joined in for the weigh-in, raffles and dinner at the Kismet Inn. Tops at the scale overall and for striped bass was Fred Newshellan, fishing on Robert Carniello's
Enter Prize, with a very respectable 28-lb.,13-oz. bass. Second place striped bass at 21-lb., 8-oz. was taken by angler Tom Kelly on board Robert Grossmin's
Marlin 300, G-Man. Andy Irenzi took third place bass (and second place bluefish) aboard Mark Palladini's
Seafarer, One On. Chris Zablocki boated a 12-lb.,12-oz. bluefish for first place in this category on his
Daddy's Girl, a 204-C. Third place bluefish at 11-lb., 3-oz. went to Joe Vitigliano aboard Philip Turbin's
Marlin 300, Citi Mouse.
